Successful Pilots

During the October half term of 2008 Talent Week was successfully piloted at Meadowhall, Sheffield and Hempstead Valley, Gillingham.  BITC visited local schools with corporate volunteers to engage children in creating their Talent Bricks. Hundreds of young people uploaded their aspirations and talents onto the Talent Wall and had their bricks showcased in the two centres.

Talent Week pilots proved a great success for the participating shopping centres.  At Hempstead Valley footfall was up by 5.8% compared to the same half term week the previous year.  It also fulfilled the desire of the shopping centres to broaden their engagement with the local communities, creating a local hub that recognised and facilitated the development of skills and talents of their young people.

“Talent Week proved a great success because it enabled the local community to showcase the vast array of local talent in a fun and inspiring way. It was great to see the centre crowded with families and schools celebrating young people’s talents and it was good for our tenants’ business too....I would definitely recommend you getting involved...”
Mark Rumfitt, Centre Manager for Hempstead Valley
